Made in Chiapas in partnership with Aid to Artisans, our light, single-weight backstrap scarf is made by an all-women collective and one-of-a-kind wardrobe essential. The process of using a backstrap loom originates from time-honored traditions. It continues today in the smaller communities in Mexico, where different indigenous groups have very specific styles in which they weave. Textiles are identified by fabric, design, and style, as the work is deeply engrained in community ties and cultural heritage. At Cornelia Lively, we strive to protect these groups, allowing their workmanship to flourish and reach markets outside of Mexico.
